About This Place

Located in the heart of Abilene, Texas, Miguel's Mex Tex Cafe offers an authentic taste of Mexican cuisine with a Texan twist, delivering a fine dining experience that is as warm and inviting as the flavors on the plate. This vibrant restaurant and bar seamlessly blends a cozy yet elegant atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for everything from casual lunches to celebratory dinners.

The menu at Miguel’s showcases a rich variety of dishes that showcase the best of both Mexican and Tex-Mex traditions. Standout offerings like the Carne Asada Steak & Enchilada combine tender, perfectly grilled steak with a savory enchilada that bursts with flavor. For seafood lovers, the Coconut Shrimp Tacos offer a delightful tropical twist, balancing crispy shrimp with creamy, fresh accents. A definite must-try is their Birria, a deeply savory stew that comforts with its slow-cooked, melt-in-your-mouth texture, accompanied by complimentary chips and salsa that set the stage with their zesty, fresh brightness.

Among the more unique highlights are the Spinach Enchiladas with Avocado Sauce, a refreshing and creamy companion to the rich and spicy fillings, and the Honey Chipotle Salmon, which delivers a perfect harmony of smoky heat and subtle sweetness. The Chicken Fried Chile Relleno lends a Southern Texas flair, combining crispy, battered chile rellenos with southern-fried goodness. These dishes, complemented by handcrafted cocktails like the vividly refreshing Pineapple Mango Margarita, encapsulate the restaurant’s commitment to flavor complexity and quality.

The dining room itself is a delight, blending tasteful décor that balances traditional Mexican motifs with modern comfort. Guests frequently praise Miguel’s for its clean, beautifully appointed space and lively yet relaxed ambiance. Attentive service is a highlight here – servers like Kaci and Angela bring warmth and knowledge to every visit, elevating the experience through thoughtful recommendations and genuine care. Patrons appreciate how the staff’s attentiveness makes dining feel personal, whether it's a quick lunch featuring the Chicken Fajitas or a leisurely evening enjoying brisket-infused options like Brisket Cheddar Taquitos and Brisket Tacos.

While some visitors have nuanced feedback—such as finding the shrimp a bit overcooked or certain vegetables underdone—the overall sentiment is one of satisfaction with the freshness and vibrancy of the food. The complimentary chips and salsa, alongside unique sauces like the creamy sour cream-based dip, create memorable flavor moments that keep guests coming back. The puffy tacos and taquitos also offer a creative take that differentiates Miguel’s from typical Mexican fare in the region.

In summary, Miguel’s Mex Tex Cafe is more than just a restaurant; it's a destination where traditional Mexican and Texan flavors meet carefully curated ingredients and attentive service, wrapped in an inviting atmosphere. Whether you're craving classic dishes or seeking something with a twist, Miguel’s promises a flavorful journey that celebrates the best of both culinary worlds.

First time here. The wait was under 10 minutes. The food was hot and fresh. It was delicious and if in town again I would definitely go back! Ask for Angela is was attentive and very knowledgeable of the menu!

I’ve been coming to Miguel’s Restaurant for quite some time now, and every visit with Kaci as our server is truly exceptional. Her customer service skills are top-tier and absolutely deserve to be recognized and rewarded. Kaci is warm, attentive, and consistently goes above and beyond to make each dining experience memorable. She not only provides excellent service but also creates a welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel valued as a guest. She remembers returning customers, checks in at the perfect times, and balances professionalism with genuine friendliness—something that’s rare to find. Because of Kaci, our meals at Miguel’s are always enjoyable, and we always look forward to coming back. She is a true asset to the restaurant, and her dedication to great customer service should not go unnoticed. Highly recommend asking for Kaci—you’ll be taken care of from start to finish!

Neat restaurant. The decor is beautiful. The food was good but nothing out of this world. Service was good. The shrimp was over cooked and the veggies were under in the tortilla soup. Just not super impressed. Chips and salsa were good!

Interesting place. The restaurant was really nice. It was clean, loved the decorations, and the staff were all kind. The red and green salsas were so delicious! They had a sour cream type sauce that was a new experience. I liked it a lot! It was about 50/50 who did and didn’t at our table. The queso was ok. Not what I was expecting but it was tasty. The puffy tacos and taquitos were different. They were most soft and not the crunchy we were anticipating. Other than that our waiter was awesome! I can’t remember his name but he was great.
